Insurance Claims for Auto Glass in Arizona

Arizona is one of the few states where your windshield might be covered with no deductible at all. Many Flagstaff drivers carry that coverage and do not know it. This page explains how it really works, plainly, including the parts some glass ads leave out. The short version: it depends on a choice you made when you set up your policy, and it takes one phone call to find out.

The Arizona Rule, Stated Correctly

Arizona law (A.R.S. section 20-264) requires insurance companies to offer optional zero deductible safety glass coverage as part of comprehensive auto policies. Read that carefully, because it has two steps:

If you picked the glass option when you bought your policy, a covered windshield replacement or repair comes with no deductible. If you did not pick it, glass claims fall under your normal comprehensive deductible. Either way, glass damage is a comprehensive claim, not a collision claim. Liability only policies do not cover your own glass at all.

Our promise: we will never tell you your windshield is free before your coverage is confirmed. Any shop that guarantees a free windshield over the phone, before checking your policy, is guessing with your money. Checking takes a few minutes and settles it.

How To Check What You Have

Because of the Flagstaff cinder problem, a large share of local drivers did choose the glass option, sometimes on an agent's suggestion years ago. It is genuinely worth the two minutes to check before paying cash for a windshield replacement.

How a Glass Claim Usually Goes

1. The claim is opened

You report the damage to your insurer or through us with your insurer on the line. You will get a claim number. Insurers in Arizona work with glass shops across the state, and you have the right to choose the shop that does your work.

2. Coverage is verified

The insurer confirms your comprehensive coverage, whether the zero deductible glass option applies, and the details of the vehicle and damage. If your car needs camera recalibration after the replacement, that is part of doing the job to the manufacturer's standard and is included in the conversation up front.

3. The work is scheduled and billed

Once coverage is confirmed, the job is scheduled, often as mobile service at your home or office, and the billing follows the claim. If your deductible applies, you pay that portion, and you will know the amount before the glass is ordered.

Questions People Ask Us About Claims

Will a glass claim raise my rates?

We cannot answer that for your insurer, and any shop that promises it cannot happen is saying more than it knows. Rate decisions belong to the insurance company. What we can do is tell you your cash price too, so you can compare and decide which route makes sense for a smaller job like a chip repair.

My deductible is higher than the windshield. What then?

Then paying cash usually makes more sense than filing a claim that pays nothing. Our cost guide explains cash pricing, and we will give you the full number, glass and recalibration included, before you decide.

The crack came from a truck throwing cinders on I-40. Is that different?

For your own policy, it is still a comprehensive glass claim. Proving another driver is responsible for thrown road debris is rarely practical, which is exactly why the zero deductible glass option exists in Arizona.
